Family History

The names of three of the children of William Pollok and Margaret Henderson (cf. monument Z05) are inscribed on this monument which, with monuments Z05 and Z06 commemorate members of the Pollok family (of Titwood), as distinct from monuments Z01-Z03 which commemorate the Polloks of Fa’side.

Both families share a common ancestor in Allan Pollok of Craigton who married Margaret Warnock in 1666 and died c.1696.

The inscriptions on memorials Z05-Z06 have deteriorated to a significant degree. Confirmation of the dates was obtained by reference to the recordings made for the Scottish Genealogy Society in 1969.

Allan, Elizabeth and William died in early adulthood as did all of the Pollok children apart from James, the eldest, who died at the age of eighty-four.

Janet McArthur, the faithful servant who served the family for nearly fifty years and who died on 24th December 1879, was born in Mull.
