Family History

Sadly the erosion caused to the face of this most unusual stone has denied enquirers access to the history of the persons interred beneath.

The monument can best be described as twin stones joined permanently together, caused by their being constructed out of the one slab. Intended perhaps to serve as grave markers for a couple they may well have been raised prior to the death of the owners. This practice was relatively common during the 18th and 19th centuries when this stone may have been constructed.

Very slight traces of inscription are visible on the left portion of the stone but are entirely undecipherable. Borders carved around the perimeter of the stone would indicate that some time and effort was taken to construct a suitable memorial for the intended customer as often such stones carry no embellishments.
